In mid 2010, FOWSP organised a competition in conjunction with Warrandyte Primary School. The competition was essentially for posters for an “Anti-Litter” campaign. Entrants were required to design a publicity poster to raise awareness of the damage that litter was doing to our environment.
The winners in each Grade were given a $40 Australian Geographic voucher and the School was given books to the value $500. The prizes were sponsored by the Warrandyte Community Bank Branch of the Bendigo Bank, and we thank them for their support.
Within the School, the competition was organised by Assistant Principal Sue Dyos, and the posters were created in the students' art classes, under the watchful eye of their teacher, Angela Pulbrook. The final judging was undertaken by Belinda Mackowski of the Manningham Leader Newspaper, Danny Mathers of the Warrandyte Bendigo Bank and Kelly Wooster and Jason Patton of FOWSP. The presentations were made at the School assembly on July 19. Mark Challen, Branch Manager of the Warrandyte Bendigo Bank was on hand to present the $500 cheque to the school librarian.
We are hoping to continue these competitions in the future, and to include other schools in the Warrandyte State Park area.
